Misery Index: Pulling out the nails
05/10/10 || Daemonomania
If I was entertaining any doubts that Misery Index is the death/grind heavyweight champion of the world, they have been utterly destroyed like IG’s sister’s butthole on your average Saturday night. This compendium of splits, EP’s, and split pea soup is absolute high speed anti-capitalist venomous domination. Forget that “parental warning naughty lyrics” sticker. This fucker should come with a sticker cautioning listeners of neck injuries ahead.
Speaking of IG (but not his sister), I’d like to thank him for repeatedly exposing my manparts and ears to MI. Over and over. Until the whole thing finally clicked. Now I can easily say they’re one of my faves. Ole DJ Daem didn’t know much about ‘em prior to “Discordia” and “Traitors”. What an idiot. Problem solved by “Pulling out the nails”, which shows the band in fine form from their inception in 2001 to more recent 2008 meisterworks. You even get some older versions of songs that would appear on later albums. Be it re-, pre-, or de-recorded, tis all very sexy. The erotic union of death metal brutality and grindy grind speed was never more steamily choreographed. Consumers of these tracks may experience frequent and long-lasting erections.
Picking out favorites would be a waste of time. Okay, I’ll do it. The first version of “Alive?”. Jee-hee-hee-zus. “My untold apocalypse” is a surprisingly varied and accessible assault with rad vocal changes. “Exception to the ruled”, “Multiply by fire”, the cover songs…shit, I told you this would be a chump’s errand. My only complaints would be with the repetition of a couple tunes, but since this is a compilation it makes sense. Also the acoustic version of “Discordia” would have been much better had they just found someone else to sing instead of using that silly vocal effect. Nothing further, your Honor. Everything else is pure killshot.
Played by Maryland’s most wanted. Remastered by Scott Hull. Assembled for your pleasure. The take-no-prisoners drumming is reason alone to own “PotN”. Buy it now and prepare to experience a feeling not unlike being run over repeatedly by an 18 wheeler. This 18 wheeler. Love it or leave it, fuckbag.
